SUPPORT + SHOP SMALL

In efforts to help the smaller shops right now, I thought I’d make a list of some of my favorite small businesses you can support. It is such a hard time for everyone but we can choose where our dollars go. If you are not in the position to support with a purchase, there are a few other ways you can show your support such as liking, following, or even reposting on social media. I know once I’m in a more financially stable position and can travel again, I will definitely be showing my support to all these shops.

OUTFIT JOURNAL: FEBRUARY 7th-FEBRUARY 16TH

First part of the year always feels like such a drab. I’ve been in a bit of a style rut and now that the weather is warming up things are starting to look up! This month, I’ve decided to challenge myself by limiting my monthly purchases. I’ve mentioned on my Instagram about the quantities of shopping I limit myself to per month but this February, I’m cutting that down to 1-2 items. So far the only purchase I’ve made were the cute red vintage loafers you all loved (linked similar versions below). Why am I doing this? Well not only should I continue to consume sustainably by shopping secondhand, vintage, and supporting ethical/sustainable brands but consuming far less is equally as important. Going green has to be about reducing what we buy, reusing, and reworking our habits. This also inspires me to shop my own wardrobe, revive items that I would normally just wear in specific seasons, and make the most out of my clothing.

If you are reading this I challenge you to do the same, if a whole month is too hard maybe start with a week and see how it goes. Let me know if you do this and share with me on Instagram! Would love to see how everyone else is making the most out of their clothes.

OUTFIT JOURNAL: NOVEMBER 24TH-30TH

Seems like the holidays are just very quickly passing us by! Here’s another week of what I wore, I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving break with family and friends. Now here is the round up:

SUNDAY.

Started off the week back home with a pretty dressy outfit. I’ll use any excuse to dress up when I can! The dress I’m wearing is actually a summer dress from Doen that I styled for Fall just with tights and a blazer, a simple way to make the most out of your clothes.

TUESDAY.

Another dressy outfit that I loved from this week! The skirt is vintage and when I first bought it, it did not fit me, however, this is the case with a lot of my vintage clothes so I get most of it tailored. Definitely worth keeping in mind if you are ever on the hunt and find a piece that just doesn’t fit properly!

HOSTING 101

The holidays are right around the corner which means a lot of you will be hosting dinners at your home or attending some cozy gatherings! I’ve always loved hosting but last year was tough to do since our home was under heavy construction so we didn’t have the space. However, we are slowly getting back into the swing of hosting again. We had some friends over for our first hosted dinner since the wedding and it was so fun. I thought it be cool to share with you all a few simple tips that were helpful to me and perhaps maybe spark some inspiration! I’ve also shared below some links to some Fall inspired recipes and some cute home table settings to hopefully get you in the mood for your next event!

THE TABLESCAPE

Make it pretty. Everything doesn’t need to match or be perfect, but picking an aesthetic or a color palette to stick to helps keep this part cohesive. Small touches like candles, vintage matching cloth napkins and cute simple season specific decor helps make it cozy, inviting, and elevated. Also, make sure you have enough serving dishes and utensils ahead of time! Below are links to some of the items on this table as well as links to similar versions for the thrifted/vintage items.

Dishes: Hearth & Hand Stoneware Dinner Plates

Serving bowl: Heath Ceramics Serving Bowl

Glassware: Vintage (similar version - wine glass) (similar version- water glass)

Candle stick holder: Ceramic candle stick holder from local store Happy House

Runner: Thrifted (similar version)

IMG_7975.jpg

Another tip! Set the table ahead of time to ensure you have plenty of time to set it exactly as you’d like to!

THE FOOD.

OK, the most important part! I am no professional Chef but I do like cooking! For any recipe ideas I always go to Pinterest first, which is where I found 3 out of the 4 dishes I made that night. I wanted all of our dishes to be Fall themed and vegetarian. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of all of the dishes together, which is a shame since all the vibrant fall colors of the vegetables came together so nicely!!

ENTREE: Gnocchi with burnt butter and lemon basil (pictured)

SALAD: Butternut Squash and Cranberry Quinoa Salad

SIDE 1: Oven Roasted Red Cabbage Steaks

SIDE 2: The last side was a mixture of carrots and potatoes roasted in the oven.

IMG_7977.JPG

THE OUTFIT.

Get yourself ready first, this is after you have already set the table (you wanna set the table early in the day). It’s better to be making some final cooking touches than be rushing to finishing your outfit/hair/makeup when the first guests arrive. I wanted to be cute and comfortable so I wore a slip dress with a lace top underneath to dress it up a bit, the vintage belt added a nice festive touch. Outfit details below. And finally, don’t forget to have fun and have a drink! Cheers!

Shoes: Converse

FRIDAY.

Finished off the week with something comfy again, it’s been a long week. I’ve really been into plaid probably mostly because it is currently Fall, so thought mixing these two plaid patterns would be a fun combo.

OUTFIT JOURNAL : NOVEMBER 1ST - 10TH.

Hi friends, while I’m on this journey of building a (mostly) second hand and sustainable wardrobe, I’ve been brainstorming ways I could help others who might be on the same boat or just getting started. Through posting outfits on Instagram I get many questions about where some of my clothing comes from so I decided to start sharing my outfits weekly, while sharing links to sustainable alternatives to thrifted and vintage pieces that I own. I will do my best to stick to this since life can get a little busy! My hope is to inspire others to make more conscious fashion choices by showing you ways of dressing while mixing mostly second hand, vintage, and ethical brands. Here we go…
